Leonardo was

born on April 15, 1452, "at the third hour of the night in the Tuscan hill town of Vinci, in Florence.
He was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer.

and unlike frescos, where the pigments are mixed with the wet plaster, it has not stood the test of time well. Over the years it has crumbled, been vandalized bombed and restored. Today we are probably looking at very little of the original.

1519. Leonardo da Vinci was buried in the Chapel

of Saint-Hubert in Château d'Amboise, in France.

Now we can see his paintings in the Louvre, the Hermitage and the Ambrosiana Library.
